ISABEL DURANT: SEA SIREN
The Eye of Horus Sea Siren, Isabel Durant, is one of the most exciting up and coming talents in the Australian performing arts Industry.
Dancing from a young age, Isabel became a serious performer as a teenager, studying full-time ballet from age 15 and dancing at Brent Street, Ecole Ballet Studios and Sydney Dance Company, all prestigious institutions for dance in Australia.
OUR SEA SIREN MODEL: Isabel Durant
Isabel became a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2010 whilst still at high school, quickly jettisoning her professional career. Isabel made the smooth transition between dancing and acting, after landing a lead role as Grace on the wildly popular teen drama Dance Academy, a role for which she is frequently recognised.
Her attendance at the Atlantic Theatre Company, in New York, marked the achievement of her cross over into acting. After Season Two of Dance Academy she spent a full year over in New York before returning for the third and final season.
ISABEL DURANT: ON ACTING
Speaking to Isabel, we were surprised to learn how she landed on her feet in the acting world, especially never acting at school and her dislike of public speaking! But we’re so glad she did, landing her next lead role as a mermaid on Mako Mermaids, an Internationally released spin-off of H20, with Network 10 and Nickelodeon. We were lucky enough to have this stunning mermaid on location for Eye of Horus in between shooting for Mako. As our Sea Siren, Isabel was an absolute delight to work with, no stranger to early makeup call times, and not afraid to jump in the water, despite the freezing winter temperatures! Now she can add modeling to her list of talents, where her professionalism and focus onset was second to none, as was her vibrant personality, easy-going nature and exceptional attitude that she brings to anything she does.
Q&A With Isabel Durant
How did you find yourself in the world of acting?
I started out as a Dancer. An audition came up where they were looking for dancers who you also act. I somehow managed to get the job then absolutely fell in love with acting!
How long have you been a mermaid for on he show H2o /mako mermaids ?
Since the beginning of 2014. I joined the cast for the second season of the show and we’ve just wrapped up filming the third season.
What are some of the highs and lows of your job?
There are countless highs! I get to play make believe for a living so it really is so much fun. One the tough things would have to be the lack of security. Rarely knowing when or where your next job will be can be quite stressful!
Are you friends with the other mermaids on the show?
Yes! Considering we spend about 14hours a day together I guess it’s pretty surprising but we really are good friends! Even after a huge week of work we still hang out on the weekends!
Favourite makeup look for the eye ?
I’m loving bronze and golds at the moment!
What is your first go you product for day to night look?
Eyeliner! Love bumping it up for the night time adventures!
Any tips for achieving the perfect brow?
I try to wax and pluck them as little as possible. I use a darker pencil to really define the brow then finish with a gel to keep them looking tidy! The new eye of Horus brow pen is actually perfect.
